Pizza Delivery Driver Tails Armed Robber After He Flees In RV

While San Francisco has Frank Bullitt’s white-knuckle Mustang-versus-Charger chase and New York  Popeye Doyle’s Pontiac LeMans pursuit of a speeding subway train, both of these famous chases are works of fiction. Seattle, however, has its own IRL hero-wheelman: a pizza delivery driver, who jumped into his Nissan Murano Wednesday and tailed an armed robber as he tried to make a getaway in a Coachmen RV.

Around 9:30 PM, the 32-year-old suspect walked into a pizza restaurant in the 3200 block of Eastlake Avenue East and approached the employee behind the counter. When the staff member offered the suspect a menu, he responded “I know what I want” and pulled out a gun. The suspect fled the restaurant with cash and a stolen bottle of apple juice, ran to a waiting motor home and sped away.

Another employee, the delivery driver, hopped in his own car and tailed the suspect through Eastlake to a gas station in the 1000 block of NE 45th Street in the University District, where he was met by police.

Officers arrested the suspect–who was sweaty and nervous when police arrived–inside the station’s convenience store and booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
