Man Arrested After Ramming Rainier Beach Restaurant

After warning workers at a Rainier Beach fast food restaurant that he planned to ram his truck into their business, a 46-year-old man made good on his word, crashing his truck through a wall and injuring two people before speeding away. He was later arrested by officers after they spotted him riding a bike through the same neighborhood.

The suspect reportedly pulled up to the Rainier Beach Jack In the Box in the 9000 block of Rainier Avenue South in a pick-up truck around 10:15 AM, approached a walk-up window and warned staff he was going to ram the business.

He returned to his truck and backed it into the side of the building, smashing in one of the business’s walls. The collision knocked over counters and appliances inside the restaurant, leaving two employees–both women in their 40s–with minor injuries. The suspect then drove off.

Police arrived and, as they were interviewing witnesses, saw the suspect riding a bicycle down the street, having apparently abandoned his damaged pickup.

Officers caught up to the suspect nearĀ 48th Avenue South and South Director Street and took him into custody. The 46-year-old man appeared erratic and made several strange statements to officers following his arrest. Detectives booked him into the King County Jail for vehicular assault, hit and run and malicious mischief.
