Robbers Caught After Returning for Buried Loot

Police arrested a suspected robber Sunday after he pulled a gun on a gas station clerk and tried to bury a cache of ill-gotten cash in the backyard of a stranger’s home.

Around 7:30 PM, the two masked suspects held up a gas station clerk at gunpoint in the 3000 block of Beacon Avenue South and fled in a dark-colored Cadillac.

While officers and robbery detectives were at the gas station investigating the heist, police received a 911 call from a homeowner in the 2800 block of 31 Avenue South, who reported two men had hidden money in his backyard and fled.

Officers arrived and found a stash of several hundred dollars hidden under a pile of bricks (presumably rearranged to form an x) and impounded the suspects’ Cadillac at the scene, but weren’t immediately able to find the suspects.

Several hours later, at 10:30 pm, the same homeowner called 911 again and said the suspects had returned to his backyard, and were searching for their hidden loot.

Officers quickly responded and arrested two suspects, and later booked a 33-year-old man into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery. Police released a 19-year-old pending further investigation.

Robbery detectives continue to investigate the case.
