Officers Arrest Capitol Hill Cell Phone Robber

Officers arrested a man after they witnessed him rob a man of his cell phone on Capitol Hill Monday morning.

Two East Precinct bike officers were approached by a man in the 900 block of E Pike St. at 2:10 am Monday.  The 36-year-old said he was confronted by a man who demanded his cell phone. The victim said the suspect grabbed the victim’s shirt before he was able to free himself and get away. The victim, who was wrapping up his interview with officers, pointed out a man nearby that he believed to be the suspect.

Officers witnessed the 22-year-old suspect across the street approach a group of people then run away. The officers went and spoke to the group who said the man had just taken a cell phone from them. Additional officers saw the suspect running into a church parking lot in the 1700 block of 11th Ave. The officers took the man into custody and located a backpack that had additional cell phones inside.

Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
