Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are conducting the follow up investigation following an early morning one vehicle collision into a pole on the light rail tracks at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Cloverdale. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.
Just before 4:45 am Friday morning the driver of a Suzuki Grand Vitara was travelling northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. The driver lost control and the Suzuki left the road and collided with a pole on the light rail tracks. Seattle Fire responded and transported the adult male to HMC. The driver had serious but non life-threatening injuries.
The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was processed for DUI. Light rail train service was disrupted while the investigation was conducted. Both directions of MLK were closed for a time during the investigation. At the time of this post, all southbound lanes have reopened and just one northbound remains closed. Officials with Sound Transit will have to inspect the tracks and determine when train service can resume.
This remains an active and on-going investigation.
