Detectives Investigating Early Morning Capitol Hill Shooting

Detectives are investigating after a woman was shot by an acquaintance in the Capitol Hill neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Police receive reports of a shooting at 2:15 am Monday near the intersection of Melrose Avenue East and East Roy Street, where officers found a 30-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her leg.

The woman said the suspect had run off towards the Melrose trail, where officers quickly found a man matching the description. The victim was unable to verify whether he was the same person who had shot her, though police later learned the man may have played a role in the incident. The woman’s boyfriend fled the scene before police arrived, and officers were unable to contact him following the incident.

Officers interviewed the victim  at Harborview Medical Center, where she was being treated for non-life threatening injuries, and based on the information she provided now believe the victim and suspect know each other.

Detectives are asking anyone with information in this case to please call the violent crime tip line at (206) 233-5000.
