A 34-year-old man was arrested at a Capitol Hill college Wednesday after a witness contacted school security out of concern that the man was carrying a gun on campus.
The witness contacted campus security at Seattle Central College around 5 PM and reported seeing a man on campus, who was carrying a gun inside a guitar case. The witness is reportedly acquainted with the suspect, and aware that he sometimes stores and carries a rifle inside the case.
School security searched the campus for the suspect, found him in the cafeteria, and called police. Officers seized the man’s rifle and took him into custody.
The suspect–a 34-year-old man, who lives in a homeless encampment in South Seattle–was booked for possessing dangerous weapon in a school facility and a felony warrant.
At this time, it does not appear the man made any threats or displayed the weapon at any point during the incident. He was previously registered as a student at the school earlier this year, but it’s not yet clear why he was on campus Wednesday evening.
