Seattle police are diving head-first into an investigation of a group of thieves, who have targeted swimmers in a series of pool locker room break-ins.
Since late November, police have received reports of thefts at swimming pool locker rooms in Ballard, Queen Anne, Greenlake, Meadowbrook, Central District and West Seattle. The thieves have broken into secured and unsecured lockers in at least a dozen incidents—not all of which were initially reported to police–and stolen credit cards, later used in shopping sprees. The suspects have also taken victims’ keys and vehicles in several incidents.
SPD detectives are working with police from other agencies in the region, where similar thefts have occurred, and say they have obtained excellent leads leads in the investigation.
SPD is also working with Parks Department employees, who are aware of the situation and have been watching for suspicious behavior at pool facilities.
