One man was arrested in Rainier Beach early Friday after a homeowner exchanged gunfire with a trio of suspected robbers.
Shortly after 2:00 am on Friday morning, officers responded to a report of shots fired at a residence near 44th Avenue South and South Cloverdale Street. Officers arrived quickly and located the residents, who reported that they had been sleeping when they heard a loud noise on the ground floor of their home.
A male resident armed himself with a handgun and went downstairs to investigate. As he was headed downstairs, he was confronted on the stairs by a masked man. Startled, the homeowner fired a shot at the suspect. The suspect turned and ran away. It is unknown if the suspect was struck. The other suspects inside the house also fled the house. The homeowner checked to make sure his wife was alright and then called 911. As the suspects were leaving the area in a vehicle, several shots were fired at the victims’ house. Neither one of the occupants were injured, but the house did sustain damage. As officers began searching the property for additional evidence, they located a suspect hiding inside a garden shed. He was immediately taken into custody and turned over to the Robbery Unit detectives.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was interviewed by detectives and later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery. This remains an active and on-going investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Seattle Police Department.
