Officers Recover Stolen Pet Ashes, Chase Down Swimming Suspect

Officers arrested a man for auto theft Friday after he went for a dip in Lake Union while trying to flee.

Police were investigating a stolen SUV parked in the 1400 block of N. Northlake Pl. Friday afternoon. Officers watched a 20-year-old man approach the SUV and sit in the driver’s seat. Officers blocked the suspect’s exit with their own cars, but the suspect ignored this and rammed the lead vehicle. The suspect jumped out of his car and ran away before officers could catch him. With no where to run, the suspect attempted to swim to freedom, but found his path blocked by Seattle Police Harbor Patrol. Officers arrested the man and took him into custody. This was great work and collaboration between Patrol Officers Audi Acuesta and Ryan Cannard and Harbor Patrol Officer Scott McGlashan.

Detectives searched the stolen SUV and discovered the ashes of Pebbles the dog, missing since the car was originally stolen on March 2nd. Detectives are now working to reunite the ashes with their rightful owner.

Officers eventually booked the man into King County Jail for auto theft and other warrants for his arrest.
