Police seized a stolen handgun and two bulletproof vests after chasing a wanted felon through the Denny/Blaine neighborhood on Thursday.
SPD Gang Unit detectives and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agents had gone looking for the man on Thursday and, around 5 PM, found him outside a home in the 2800 block of East Arthur Place.
When police pulled in behind the man on the street, he took off on foot, scaling several fences and running through yards until officers found him hiding in a shed down the block.
Police followed the man’s trail back through the yards of several homes, where they found a bulletproof vest and a handgun with an extended magazine. The gun, which detectives learned had previously been reported stolen in Tukwila, was discovered on the ground near a child’s toy.
Detectives returned to the property where they had first tried to contact the man and served a warrant at the home, where they found firearms parts, ammunition and another bulletproof vest, capable of stopping rifle rounds. They also found another vehicle on the property, which had bullet holes in its front windshield.
Police booked the man for a felony theft warrant, unlawful possession of a firearm and a fugitive warrant out of Oregon.
