Motorcycle/Vehicle Injury Collision in South Seattle

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are investigating a collision that involved a motorcycle and BMW SUV last night in the Rainier View neighborhood.  The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday at about 6:40 pm, a BMW X5 was travelling eastbound on S. Bangor Street at 56th Avenue South when the 80-year-old male driver made a U-turn to head westbound.  At the same time, a 26-year-old male riding a motorcycle travelling eastbound collided with the BMW. The rider sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.  Seattle Fire responded to the scene with police and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center.

As is routine, a Drug Recognition Expert officer evaluated the 80-year-old driver of the BMW.  The driver did exhibit signs of impairment, so he was placed under arrest and a legal blood draw was performed.  The driver was then released pending the outcome of the blood draw.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
