Detectives are seeking the public’s help in solving an April hit-and-run collision, which left a 39-year-old woman with serious injuries.

Officers responded to the 100 block of South Horton St April 20th at 9:15 pm after receiving reports that a car had stuck a pedestrian and fled the scene. Officers found a 39-year-old woman with bone fractures, which she later required surgery to fix.

The woman was reportedly struck as she was walking across a parking lot after leaving an event in the area.  She slowly made her way through the lot when a man exited a vehicle and asked her to move so they could back  a car out of its parking stall.  The woman, who uses a cane to walk, said it would take her some time to get out of the way. The man entered the passenger side of the waiting car.  The driver of the car backed the vehicle out of the spot at a high rate of speed striking the victim. She was knocked to the ground and was run over by the car in the process.

The driver of the vehicle, according to witnesses, “floored it” in an attempt to flee the scene.  A bystander was able to follow the car and write down details on the vehicle, which they later gave to officers.

Police only received vague descriptions of the driver and passenger in the vehicle, both black males. The driver appeared to be in his 20s. Multiple witnesses reported the driver of the vehicle was at Studio Seven for concert.

Detectives were able to locate the woman who owns the vehicle, but she did not provide information about who might have been driving it at the time of the incident. Police impounded the vehicle as part of the investigation.
