Gang Unit detectives were busy this afternoon following up on a recent drive-by shooting. Their efforts were rewarded when they spotted the suspect driving in the Rainier Beach neighborhood. Officers stopped the car and arrested the suspect but his male passenger took off running, tossing a backpack in the process. The passenger didn’t make it far and he was also arrested without incident. A routine name check revealed that he was wanted for assault.
Detectives searched the backpack and found a loaded handgun, which they placed into evidence for forensic analysis. Detectives impounded the car and will work to obtain a search warrant pending further investigation.
Both suspects were booked into King County Jail.
