Prowler Arrested After Trying to Bribe, Threaten and Fight Security Guard

A suspected car prowler was arrested early Saturday after he tried to fight, bribe or threaten his way out of the grasp of an unflappable security guard.

Around 1:20 AM Saturday, a security guard saw three people prowling cars in a supposedly secure parking garage.  Two of the suspects ran off  but the guard was able to detain one man. The suspect fought with the guard but then offered him $1,000 to let him go. When the suspect realized he wasn’t going to be able to bribe his way out of the situation, he told the guard he had a gun. The guard maintained his composure and physically held onto the suspect until West Precinct officers arrived several minutes later.

Police searched the suspect, and found he was carrying a gun and close to $1,000 in cash, as well as tools frequently used by burglars and prowlers and a small amount of suspected heroin.

Major Crimes Task Force Detectives were called in to assist in the case and they discovered the suspect had recently stolen the handgun in a car prowl.

Police are now working to identify the gun’s owner.

The 33-year-old suspect was booked into the King County Jail for burglary, assault and narcotics possession.
