A man is in custody this morning after he violated a court order and assaulted a family member and then barricaded himself inside a home, causing significant damage inside the house.
The incident began around 10:30 pm on Wednesday night when North Precinct officers responded to a report of a domestic violence order violation call in the 7300 block of 52nd Avenue NE. The suspect had physically assaulted the victim and threatened to kill her. The suspect fled before officers arrived, and a K-9 team attempted a track, but the suspect was not located.
Approximately three hours later the suspect returned to the house and caused significant property damage inside the home. The 35-year-old male had barricaded the doors with furniture and began throwing objects out of the windows at officers. The suspect started a fire inside the home. SWAT, negotiators, and the Seattle Fire Department responded. Neighboring homes were evacuated. The fire department was able to put out the fire. After several hours of negotiations, the suspect attempted to flee out a back door and was taken into custody by SWAT officers.
The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail. Detectives will handle the follow up investigation.
