Six Injured After Van Collides with Downtown Building

Detectives are investigating after a van collided with a Downtown building injuring six people Thursday.

Just before noon, Thursday witnesses began calling 911 to report a van had just struck some pedestrians at 5 Avenue and Pine Street.  The witnesses told officers the white passenger van was traveling southbound along 5 Avenue when it veered onto the sidewalk on the east side of the street.  The van then struck four people, hit a building and threw glass onto a fifth person.

Seattle fire department medics and private ambulances took the five people to the hospital with injuries ranging from serious to minor.  Officers spoke with the driver who they believe suffered from a medical condition just prior to the crash. Medics took the driver to the hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

Seattle police collision investigators are working to clear the scene and will reopen the area to traffic when they are finished. Detectives will provide updates as they become available.
