Detectives are conducting the follow up investigation after patrol officers arrested a man Saturday morning for possession of stolen mail.
On Saturday, around 9:30 am, officers responded to a call of a man attempting to steal mail in the 11400 block of 69th Place South. The witness called 911 and provided a description of the suspect and a direction of travel for the man. The witness provided an update to 911 stating that the suspect was sitting in a bus shelter at Renton Avenue South and South Fountain Place. Officers responded to that location and observed the suspect throw items of mail into the trash can next to the bus shelter. The witness positively identified the suspect, and the 42-year-old man was taken into custody. During a search of the suspect, officers located multiple pieces of mail in his pockets, including tax documents and checks.
Officers returned the important tax documents and checks to several different victims in South Seattle. On this particular incident, officers discovered 15 different victims from 7 separate addresses.
The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of possession of stolen property.
Detectives will continue to follow up on this case.
