Officers Arrest Two Men Following Capitol Hill Burglary

Police arrested two men Friday morning after officers spotted them burglarizing a Capitol Hill apartment building.

Officers patrolling in the 700 block of Broadway East just before 6 a.m. spotted the two men, who they believed may have also been involved in burglarizing other apartment buildings in the area.

The officers watched the two men for a few minutes until they saw them approach a building near the intersection of Broadway East and East Aloha Street.  The police officers exited their patrol car and quietly approached where they had last seen the two men.  As they did so, the officers witnessed the two men prying open a door before disappearing inside. As the officers were calling for additional units to surround the building, the suspects exited, carrying a stolen bicycle.

The officers placed the 18 and 23-year-old men under arrest and quickly tracked down the owner of the bike.  Officers searched the men and found stolen mail in one man’s backpacks. Police also found the second man was carrying an illegal foot-long fixed blade knife strapped to his hip. Officers booked the two men into King County Jail for the burglary, stolen mail, and other various charges.
