Man Shot In Stomach In Minor Neighborhood, Suspect Detained After Calling For Ride

Gang unit detectives are investigating after a man was shot in the stomach Tuesday evening.

Officers were called to the 100 block of 25 Avenue South just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for multiple reports of shots fired.  When police arrived they found a man with a single gunshot wound to the stomach.  The victim’s friend said they were walking down the street when they heard multiple gunshots but didn’t know where they were coming from.  The two men began to run away until the victim fell to the ground due to the wound he sustained.

Seattle Fire Department medics took the victim to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

While officers were searching the area for a suspect, a ride-share driver told officers that he was supposed to pick up a fare in the area and asked if it was ok to proceed.  The officers waved the driver through while watching where he was going.  A man exited a nearby house and walked up to the driver before quickly going back inside.  The driver returned to officers and told them the man didn’t want a ride until police left the area.  Police approached the house and spoke to a woman who said a man claimed he was being shot at and needed shelter.  The woman allowed the man into her home to wait until it was safe for him to leave.  Officers searched where the man had been waiting and found a loaded 9mm handgun. Officers detained the suspect who is currently being interviewed by gang unit detectives.
