Police Arrest Protestors for Blocking Busy Downtown Intersection

Downtown officers arrested five women and two men after they blocked the intersection of 6th and Pike earlier this afternoon and refused to leave.

Around 3:20 p.m, downtown officers responded to the area of 6th and Pike to a report of approximately fifty people protesting. The demonstration had spilled out into the street, effectively blocking all traffic.

Responding officers called for additional resources, including bicycle officers.

At 5:20 p.m., the incident commander ordered the protesters back to the sidewalk or be arrested for failure to do so.

Five men and two women still refused to leave the intersection. All seven were arrested without incident.

By 6:15 p.m., all lanes of traffic were reopened.

The seven protestors will be booked into King County Jail for pedestrian interference.
