King County Jail officers shot and injured a fleeing murder suspect after he escaped from custody at Harborview Medical Center earlier this morning.
The suspect, a 19 year old man, was under guard at Harborview Medical Center when he fled and ran out the hospital doors at around 10:14 a.m. The man has been accused of shooting and killing an 18 year old woman on a Kent trail just weeks ago.
The guards chased him, but were not able to capture him. One guard shot the suspect at 8th and Yesler, and jail staff placed him back into custody at that time.
The suspect was transported back to Harborview Medical Center and is receiving emergency care for non-life threatening injuries.
Seattle Police are on scene and have agreed to conduct the preliminary investigation.
King County Jail staff will conduct their own internal, administrative investigation regarding this incident.
