Detectives Investigating Following “Help the Firefighter” Response in Eastlake.

Seattle Police officers responded to a “Help the Firefighter” incident early this morning in the Eastlake neighborhood.  The suspect is in custody but was transported to Harborview Medical Center following a medical emergency.

At approximately 2:18 am, Seattle Fire Department firefighters responded to a residence in the 100 block of East Roanoke Street for an overdose call. A few minutes later, a “Help the Firefighter” call was broadcast and Seattle Police officers responded. The first arriving officers found the male suspect in a physical fight with the firefighters. It took a number of officers to get the man into custody. Once the suspect was in custody, firefighters were able to evaluate the suspect’s medical condition and made the determination to transport the man to Harborview Medical Center for additional treatment. Several firefighters and one officer were also injured during the fight and were treated for their injuries.

Force Investigation Team (FIT) detectives responded to the scene and will conduct the follow-up investigation.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the suspect had assaulted a female inside the residence, so a separate domestic violence assault report was taken by officers.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.
