Suspect Arrested After Fighting with Bicycle Officers

A suspect was arrested yesterday morning after fighting with bicycle officers during a weapons violation contact Sunday.  One bicycle officer was injured during the encounter.

On Sunday, just before 11:00 am, bicycle officers contacted the suspect at Pike Street and Hubbell Place.  The suspect was displaying a fixed blade knife.  Officers contacted the suspect and informed him that the knife was illegal.  The suspect put down the knife and complied with the officer’s instructions.

During the pat down search of the suspect, the suspect suddenly began to fight with the officers, pulling on the arm of one of the officers.  The officers were able to wrestle the suspect to the ground and take him into custody.

A small amount of cocaine was located in the suspect’s backpack, and it was determined that he had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.

The warrants were verified and the suspect was booked into jail.  The officer was checked out at the hospital and released later that day with minor injuries.
