The Seattle Police Department would like to thank several people who helped the us to improve our services and address issues in the West Precinct this year.
2019 Outstanding Community Member: Bob Nale
Bob has been actively involved in efforts to keep the Cascade Neighborhood clean and safe for the past 2 years. Bob has been the voice for the Cascade neighborhood and is in frequent contact with Officer Don Little regarding crime and safety concerns and to share positive feedback when issues have been taken care of. Bob has worked closely with neighbors and his building’s manager to bring personal safety training to his fellow residents and is working with neighboring building residents to form a Block Watch.

2019 Outstanding Community Member: Tija Petrovich
Tija is “all in” for Pioneer Square. Whether it’s reporting burned-out street lights or reporting crime, Tija is always there, and always the first to volunteer. Tia is president of the Pioneer Square Residents Council, and works hard keeping residents informed and engaged. She is an articulate spokesperson for the neighborhood, whether in a one-on-one with the Mayor or making public comment at a public safety forum. No one who works or lives there can imagine Pioneer Square without Tija.

2019 Outstanding Community Member: Nora Chan
Nora has been an integral fixture in the Chinatown International District for several decades. She started Seniors in Action, which promotes civic and community involvement by Chinese seniors. Everyone in the CID knows Nora, and she has been key in keeping the lines of communication open between the community and the police department, and truly is a boots-on-the-ground one-woman wonder. She personally checks in with multiple businesses daily, to see what their needs are and how she can be of service, or if they need police assistance. She has been able to pull in resources from all around the region to financially and civically support the historic Chinatown International District.

2019 Outstanding Community Member: Paula Mueller
Paula is recognized for leading the effort to create the Queen Anne Block Watch Captains Network which has connected 25 Block Watch Captains. The network focuses on providing a forum for block captains to share Queen Anne-specific crime and safety information, strengthen the relationship with Seattle Police Department West Precinct, and support outreach efforts and the development of new block watches in areas that do not currently have active groups. SPD greatly appreciates Paula’s dedication and commitment to increasing safety and strengthening the bonds of community in the Queen Anne neighborhood.
