Police Arrest Seven in Downtown Retail Theft Emphasis Operation

Over the span of 12 hours yesterday, West Precinct bicycle officers and Anti-Crime Team officers conducted a retail theft operation focused in the 1500 block of 6th Avenue.  This area has been impacted by shoplifting.  During Thursday’s operation, seven individuals were arrested and officers recovered over $3,500 in stolen merchandise.

One man and a woman were responsible for over $1,000 in stolen merchandise alone.  After the arrest, officers discovered the couple were already in possession of $900 worth of merchandise, believed to have been taken in another theft several weeks ago.  Also in the couple’s possession were burglary tools and credit cards and passports in other people’s names.

All told, seven adults, four men and three women were arrested and later booked into the King County Jail.

Detectives will continue to follow up on these cases.
