Police arrested a 44-year-old man in Downtown Seattle Thursday evening after he snuck onto an upper floor of the building, broke into a financial office, ate hundreds of dollars worth of chocolate and took a nap before police arrived.
Just before 7 pm, the suspect entered a building in the 600 block of Union Street, hitched a ride to an upper floor, and then began pulling on the doors of a financial office until he was able to break the door loose and enter.
An employee noticed the suspect, became concerned, and hid from the suspect, who entered an unoccupied office, rearranged a painting in the room, and began eating chocolates—somehow valued at $200—from a glass bowl on a desk.
Building security and police soon arrived and located the suspect, who had removed his shoes, watch, and jacket, and lay down on a couch in a dark office.
The man initially told officers “you will have to kill me to take me to jail,” but police were able to quickly get him into custody without doing so.
Police booked the man into the King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary, Investigation of Malicious Mischief and two warrants.
