Update: Arrest Made in South Park Homicide

Update 11/7:

Homicide detectives have worked tirelessly since the fatality shooting that occurred in South Park on November 3rd.  A person of interest and a vehicle were identified as part of the investigation.

In the early morning hours of November 7th, the suspect vehicle was located in the city of Kent. Seattle Police homicide detectives followed the vehicle to SeaTac where Tukwila Police assisted detectives with the vehicle stop and arrest of the suspect on International Boulevard.  The vehicle was impounded.

Julio Cruz-Velazquez, age 25, was transported back to Seattle Police Headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives.

Following the interview by detectives, Cruz-Velazquez was booked into King County Jail for investigation of murder.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.

Original Post 11/3:

  Detectives are investigating after a man was killed in the South Park neighborhood early Sunday morning. Residents called 911 just after 1 AM Sunday to report the gunshots in the 1000 block of South Donovan Street. When officers arrived they found shell casings in the street and damage to a nearby home. Officers went to inspect the damage and found a man in his 50’s inside, who had been struck by at least one of the rounds. The officers attempted CPR but the man was declared dead at the scene. Detectives with the Homicide unit are now combing through the evidence left at the scene and speaking with neighbors as they develop a suspect description.
