Just after 4 p.m. this afternoon, South Precinct patrol officers and Gang Unit detectives responded to the 8800 block of Rainier Avenue South to a report of a shooting, with one bystander struck by gunfire.
Preliminary investigation and witness reports led officers to believe that the incident began as a disturbance between two parties, one man on foot, and other suspects in a car. This disturbance quickly escalated into gunfire, with the teenage male victim being an innocent bystander.
Seattle Fire Department medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center for emergency care. Fortunately, his injuries are not life-threatening.
Officer flooded the area in an attempt to capture the suspects, and called in a K9 team for support. Although these efforts were unsuccessful, officers did locate two cars believed to have been involved in this crime.
Gang Unit detectives impounded both cars, and will obtain search warrants for further processing.
Detectives continue to investigate, and will search for surveillance video that may have captured the incident. Anyone with information regarding this shooting or the suspects’ whereabouts is asked to call 911.
