The Seattle Police Department would like to announce three command staff changes.
Captain Todd Kibbee has been named the South Precinct Captain, taking over for Captain Kevin Grossman. Captain Grossman will be moving to the Special Victims Unit. Captain James Dermody will now be the Captain over the Collaborative Policing bureau.
Captain James Dermody has worked with the Seattle Police Department since 1990 holding the rank of Captain since 2009. He has been the precinct commander at both the East and West precincts as well as leading the Narcotics, Data-Driven, Intelligence and Tactical Analysis, Force Investigations, and Special Victims Crimes units.
Captain Dermody graduated from the University of Washington in 1989 with a B.A. in Society and Justice and in 2013 with a Masters of Public Administration.
Captain Todd Kibbee has been a Seattle Police Officer for 26 years and has held numerous positions within the department, to include: patrol officer, patrol sergeant, Early Intervention Coordinator and Watch Commander. Captain Kibbee was most recently assigned as the Mountain Bike Unit Commander at SPD’s West Precinct, where he led the department’s efforts in combating narcotics issues in the downtown core. He has served as the West Precinct’s liaison to the LEAD program since 2017 and believes strongly in the partnership between SPD and LEAD.
Captain Kibbee holds a B.A. in International Studies from Norwich University and is a graduate of both SPD’s Command Leadership Program and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
Captain Kevin Grossman has been a Seattle Police Officer since 1996. He has served in a wide variety of assignments, including patrol, detective in the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit, liaison officer to the Seattle Housing Authority, supervisor in the Audit, Policy, and Research Section, aide in the Chief’s Office, supervisor in the Office of Police Accountability, watch commander in two precincts, the North Precinct Operations Lieutenant, and the South Precinct commander. He was also a Hostage Negotiator for seven years.
Before coming to SPD, Captain Grossman earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin and worked briefly as an Assistant Attorney General for the Washington Attorney General’s Office. In 2017, Captain Grossman earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington.
