Driver Arrested After Fatally Striking Pedestrian on Aurora, Fleeing Scene

Police arrested a 21-year-old driver Wednesday after he fatally struck a pedestrian on Aurora Avenue.

Around 8:15 pm, a 70-year-old man was crossing Aurora Avenue North near the crosswalk at North 125th Street. The 21-year-old man, who was driving northbound in a Toyota Corolla, struck the victim and then left the scene.

Seattle Fire Department medics attempted to revive the the pedestrian, but he died at the scene. Officers located the suspect’s unoccupied car approximately eight blocks away. Officers searched the area, with the assistance of a K-9 team and the King County Sheriff’s helicopter, Guardian One, but did not locate the suspect.

Officers later located and arrested the suspect without incident in North Seattle.

Officers evaluated the 21-year-old and detected signs of impairment. A search warrant for a blood sample was obtained and the suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide and hit and run.

Traffic Collision detectives responded and processed the scene. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
