Gang Unit detectives are investigating after a 78-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting Wednesday evening in South Seattle.
At approximately 7:30 pm, 911 began receiving reports that one person had been struck by gunfire near Rainier Avenue South and Seward Park Avenue South. South Precinct officers responded and secured the scene, but did not immediately locate any victims. Police then began receiving reports that a driver had picked up the victim and was transporting her to the hospital.
The driver and the victim pulled over at Rainier Avenue South and South Genesee Street where Seattle Fire treated the victim and transported her to Harborview Medical Center.
A possible suspect vehicle may have been located south of the shooting when its driver was involved in a collision. The occupants of the vehicle fled, and King County deputies are investigating that incident.
Detectives responded to both scenes and collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. This remains an active and on-going investigation.
