SPD Conducting Force Review of King County Officer-Involved Shooting in Shoreline (UPDATED)

Update 8/4: The Seattle Police Department’s Force Investigations Team (FIT) is conducting an independent investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred on July 16, 2020 in Shoreline.  KCSO deputies contacted a suspect who earlier stabbed a man walking his dog critically injuring him.  The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.   The suspect attempted to stab another man as he was getting into his vehicle.  Both assaults were unprovoked attacks by the suspect.  According to witnesses the suspect failed to comply with the deputy’s orders to drop his knife, instead he came at the officers with the knife.  The officers fired their service weapons killing the suspect.  The investigation is expected to take several months, at the conclusion of the investigation the case will be submitted to the King County Prosecutor for a filing decision.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the SPD FIT at 206 684 9292.


On July 16, 2020 King County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a stabbing near 175th Street and Linden Avenue North in the city of Shoreline.  

The victim said he was walking his dog when the suspect came up behind him and stabbed him in the back.  When the victim turned around the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest, the suspect then stabbed the victim’s dog.  

The suspect encountered another individual standing next to his car, he attempted to stab the second victim in the abdomen.  The victim was able to escape from the suspect and called 911. 

Responding deputies encountered the suspect in the driveway of an apartment complex nearby.  According to witnesses at the scene, officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife several times. When the suspect came at the officers, several shots were fired.  The suspect died at the scene.  

The Seattle Police Department’s Force Investigations Team (FIT) responded to conduct the independent investigation and the SPD Crime Scene Investigations processed the scene for evidence.  The investigation is expected to take several months. At the conclusion of the investigation it will be submitted to the King County Prosecutor for a filing decision.
