Police arrested a 51-year-old man Saturday night after a lengthy standoff in the 100 block of 6 Avenue South. The victim called police at 2 pm to report that the suspect had threatened to kill her, and later returned armed with a small sword.
The suspect left again and returned to his apartment. When officers arrived, they attempted to contact the suspect, who answered his door, and then closed it on officers.
Hostage negotiators, Mental Health Providers, Crisis Intervention Officers and SWAT all responded to the scene. Over the span of multiple hours officers attempted to create a dialogue with the suspect. The SWAT team eventually entered the apartment and safely took the suspect into custody. They also found the katana used to threaten the victim.
Police booked the suspect into King County Jail for investigation of harassment.
