Witness Chases Down Suspect in Early-Morning Arson

A 32-year-old man is under investigation for arson after a witness chased him down and held him for police early this morning near the scene of a fire at a South Seattle construction site.

Around 3AM this morning, the witness had just gotten out of bed to use the bathroom when he saw flickering light outside the window of his home in the 2300 block of South Plum Street. After realizing a nearby home construction site was on fire, the witness woke his family and got them out of the house, and spotted a man leaving the scene of the fire.

The witness got on his bicycle and followed the suspect, confronting him several blocks away and pinning him to the ground until police arrived.

Officers found evidence connecting the suspect to the fire and plan to book the 32-year-old man into the King County Jail.
