On 04-30-2021 at 1500 hours, officers were called to an extended stay rental building about a subject that had made threats to kill an employee and was trespassing due to his stay being over. Employees also stated that the subject had put a camera up outside his door in the hallway and the threat was made when they told him he could not have it. When officers made contact, they cracked the door and the subject kicked it closed and stated he had a gun. The employee who had the threats to kill made against him did not feel the threat was credible, so we had a trespass call. Due to the nature of the call and the mention of a gun, this turned into a barricaded suspect. I screened this with a Lt and called for the Hostage Negotiation Team. We held down the hallway until HNT arrived and they were able to make contact with the subject’s family via phone. After discussing the totality of the circumstances, they made the decision to attempt to speak to the subject in the room to gain compliance. The subject would not engage in conversation, so the decision was made to de-escalate and walk away.
