The conductor of a Link light rail train struck and killed two pedestrians who were crossing against the light Thursday Friday evening in South Seattle.
At 6:20 p.m. police responded to a pedestrian/light rail collision at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Way South and South Alaska Street. The Seattle Fire Department also responded and extricated two pedestrians from under the light rail car. A 76-year-old woman was declared deceased at the scene, and a 66-year-old man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The man later died from his injuries.
Although the pedestrians were crossing the intersection in a crosswalk, they were crossing during a “Don’t Walk” signal.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and will conduct the investigation.
