#2021-293612/West Precinct/Third Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 0049 hours, officers were conducting an area check on a shots-fired call and on-viewed a suspect running away from them with visible injuries to his head and face. Suspect ran into the back yard of a residence and sat down and was unresponsive to officers’ presence. Homeowners advised suspect was unknown and trespassing. As officers were interacting with the suspect he began swinging wildly, striking an officer in the arms several times, and trying to kick them. Subject was taken into custody utilizing Type 1 Force. Assault on Officer (No Injuries) was screened with Lt.
#2021-293684/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 0348 hours, officers observed a suspicious box truck and noticed it did not have any license plates. They stopped the vehicle and noticed the steering column, ignition and steering wheel had significant damage common with stolen vehicles. A check of the VIN returned as an SPD stolen. Driver arrested and booked without incident for investigation of a stolen motor vehicle.
#2021-293724/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 0529 hours, a subject had just arrived from L.A. He was at a store and used a large rock to break the locked glass contractor door and dove through the door frame right behind the rock. He ran to the back of the store, climbed the inventory scaffolding, then climbed into the rafters of the ceiling. He expressed that he was paranoid shadows, and the FBI were trying to kill him. Patrol officers used large bales of insulation to cover the floor to reduce injury risk if he fell. Hostage Negotiation Team was requested and a Lt. After nine hours of negotiations, out-reach service offers, and a consulate dignitary visit, the later subject surrendered due to fatigue and negotiations. Subject booked for felony property damage with a promise of resources set up, upon his release.
#2021-293756/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at about 0655 hours, a semi-tractor trailer was making a left turn from NB E Marginal Way S onto Diagonal Ave S. The driver failed to negotiate the turn properly and struck a wooden traffic signal pole. The impact damaged the base of the pole which required a full replacement. Traffic was diverted around the area causing significant delays both NB and SB along E. Marginal Way. Estimated time of full re-opening is around 1500 hours.
#2021-293767/Southwest Precinct/First Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 0713 hours, units responded to a collision where a semi had collided into a building. It was found that the semi also broke off a pole and the top of the pole was hanging from the wires on top of the cab of the semi. There were no injuries to the driver, and the building was vacant. This occurred during a time of heavy traffic through the area. It took several Patrol and traffic units to close streets and divert traffic. SDOT and City Light also responded to assess and assist with the scene. Per City Light the entire block had to be shut down, not allowing traffic in either direction. It was also determined that two poles needed to be replaced. At the time of this report, patrol units, traffic units, and a PEO were still on scene blocking traffic.
#2021-293909/North Precinct/First Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 1008 hours, a suspect broke into an apartment and fired several rounds at a male victim. No rounds made contact with any people. The suspect then returned to his vehicle and left the scene. A check of the suspect’s address revealed his vehicle was now parked at his apartment complex in Renton. Officers were sent to contain the vehicle and possible apartment. SWAT contacted. Evidence collected. The situation is still ongoing as of the writing of this SIR.
#2021-293995/South Precinct/Second Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 1143 hours, a vehicle ran a right light and collided with a light rail vehicle. No injuries were reported by either party. Following the collision, subjects fled the involved vehicle carrying bags – possibly involved in some other unconfirmed crime. The subjects from the car were outstanding. King County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
#2021-294113/South Precinct/Second Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 1346 hours, officers responded to a call of over a dozen demonstrators in the lobby of a housing non-profit in the Columbia City neighborhood. Upon arrival, the demonstrators had exited the lobby and were having a rally in the private parking lot just outside the building. Officers spoke to representatives of the non-profit as well as the demonstration. Officers additionally spoke with a demonstrator who claimed she was assaulted by staff in the lobby. The demonstrators appeared to be protesting rent increases and advocating for rent control. The keynote speaker for the demonstration was Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant. Officers monitored the rally until the conclusion. There were no further issues.
#2021-294241/South Precinct/Second Watch:
On 11-05-2021 at 1636 hours, officers responded to what was originally reported as two vehicles chasing one another and one driver had pointed a pistol at the other. Updates came in that the driver with the pistol fired multiple rounds at the victim vehicle before fleeing the scene. The shots fired at the victim vehicle caused it to collide into another uninvolved vehicle. The driver of the victim vehicle was uninjured. He described the altercation as a road rage incident. After consulting with Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives, Patrol processed the scene. Officers recovered evidence of a shooting.
