#2022-017319/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:

On 01-21-2022 at 1643 hours, 911 received a call from a known subject who stated he was going to take hostages in one hour but would not state where this was going to take place. While continuing to speak with 911 call takers, the subject continued to give updates on his progress but would not provide the exact location. Conversations were heard in the background, which indicated the subject had entered a department store in the 2800 block SW Barton St. Additional conversations could be heard indicating the subject was attempting to arm himself and was referring to other people as his hostages. Patrol officers responded to the location and began setting up containment. As officers arrived, staff confirmed the store employees and customers had all exited the store safely and the subject was the only person in the store. Patrol covered all exits of the store and Hostage Negotiation Team units arrived a short time later and began communicating with the subject who had armed himself with a butcher knife. After an approximate seven-hour standoff and having exhausted all efforts to get the subject to give himself up peacefully, SWAT units made entry into the store and took the subject into custody. A type II Use of Force was reported. Seattle Fire was requested for medical treatment before the subject was transported to King County Jail and booked for multiple counts of felony harassment. SW Patrol, CRG, HNT, ABS and SWAT units took part in this incident. Various media were on scene.
