Seattle Police captain notified Bellevue Police Department about a stolen vehicle near the Phantom Lake area in Bellevue earlier this morning.
At about 9:30 a.m., SPD captain received a stolen car hit from his Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) and informed Bellevue officers. The captain attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. The captain did not pursue the vehicle.
Later Bellevue officers located the stolen vehicle, which had been abandoned. The suspected driver was found nearby after a resident in the area called in about a suspicious person in their backyard.
As the 12-year-old was being arrested, another vehicle appeared on scene. Officers recognized the vehicle being involved in a carjacking earlier this morning in Renton.
Police were able to detain the three occupants of the second vehicle, after a pursuit that ended along the Coal Creek Trail. King County’s Guardian One helicopter assisted in tracking the vehicle and its occupants when they ran onto the trail.
Bellevue Police Department arrested the 12-year-old 13-year-old and three 14-year-old 15-year-old suspects on suspicion of armed carjacking and recovered the two stolen vehicles.
