A man was seriously wounded Friday afternoon after he was struck in the head with a hammer in a robbery in downtown Seattle. Police arrested the suspect near the scene of the incident.
Around 2:15 p.m., the suspect approached the victim at 4th Avenue and Pike Street, struck him in the head with a hammer, and stole his backpack. Officers arrested the suspect a short time later.
Seattle Fire Department personnel provided medical aid at the scene and later transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
SPD Robbery detectives are investigating the case and will book the suspect into King County Jail.
