Police arrested a 30-year-old man after he entered a woman’s apartment and raped her at knifepoint Saturday evening.
At 7:23 p.m., a woman reported she had just been raped by an unknown man at knifepoint in her South Lake Union apartment building. The suspect snuck in to her secure building as another person was leaving and then made his way to her floor, possibly via a stairwell. The victim had her apartment door propped open for ventilation, and the suspect entered and immediately displayed a knife. He raped her, stole her purse, and then fled.
Responding officers collected evidence at the scene and reviewed surveillance footage.
The woman was treated at a local hospital, and officers then brought her back to her apartment at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Then, just before 9:00 a.m., the victim called 911 again, saying the suspect had returned and was outside her door. Police rushed to the building and arrested the man.
Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail for rape, robbery and burglary.
