Suspect Arrested for Robbery Near University Village

Seattle police responded to a robbery at gunpoint near University Village Tuesday afternoon.

At 4:30 p.m. officers arrived in the 3000 block of Northeast 45th Street and contacted the 41-year-old male victim who is a loss prevention employee of a local grocery store. The victim stated he observed a male conceal merchandise and attempt to leave the store without paying.

The victim told officers the 33-year-old male suspect attempted to shoplift more than $70 dollars of merchandise. The victim stated he confronted the suspect and asked him to return the stolen items. When the suspect refused the victim tried to retrieve the merchandise. During the confrontation, the suspect implied he had a gun.

A nearby witness selling Girl Scout cookies with her daughter said she thought the suspect had a gun. The witness stated she immediately grabbed her daughter and ran for safety.

Officers recovered a gun shaped lighter from the scene.

Officers conducted an area check and located the suspect.

The suspect was arrested for robbery and booked into King County Jail.
