(UPDATE)Man Shot in Drive-by Shooting

UPDATE: 04/18/2023 at 4:46 p.m.

Earlier this morning around 4:00 a.m., Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives, officers in the Community Response Group, and SWAT served a search warrant to arrest a suspect in Whittier Heights involved in the shooting that occurred mid-March.

Police recovered a loaded firearm that matched the caliber used in the shooting. The 23-year-old male suspect was arrested for assault and drive-by-shooting and booked in King County Jail.

Seattle Police responded to a report of a man shot in his vehicle in the University District late Thursday evening.

Officers arrived just before 11:00 p.m. in the 4200 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast and learned a 32-year-old man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg had been driven to Harborview Medical Center for medical treatment.

Police contacted friends of the victim, who were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. They said a male driver of a silver sedan honked at them from behind. As they drove off, the victim’s male friend honked back at the other vehicle. The male suspect exited his car and showed them a gun from his waist area.

When the victim vehicle reached the 4200 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast, shots were fired at the vehicle from the same silver sedan involved in the earlier altercation.

Officers recovered evidence of a shooting from the scene and from the vehicle fired upon during the drive-by shooting.

The male suspect was last seen driving a silver sedan while leaving the area.

SPD detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit will be investigating the case.
