Theft Investigation Leads to Stolen Gun Recovery, Felony Arrest

South Precinct officers conducting a vehicle prowl investigation arrested a man Wednesday evening after he ran from police and tossed a stolen gun.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers contacted the victim of a vehicle prowl in the area of 24th Avenue S and S King Street. The victim told police one of the items taken contained a tracking device, which led him to the area.

Officers noticed a suspicious unoccupied vehicle nearby and could see the victim’s property inside. Police then contacted a man at a residence who claimed the vehicle was his, but then refused to come outside to talk to them. He ran from the rear of the house and refused commands given by officers to stop.

During the foot pursuit, police saw the suspect throw a gun before he was taken into custody. The handgun was reported stolen out of Tacoma, and officers learned the man was a convicted felon making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

Police impounded the vehicle for a search warrant and booked the 29-year-old suspect into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicle prowl, possession of stolen property, possessing a stolen firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
