Armed Dispute Ends in Arrest Outside Capitol Hill Business

A man is in Seattle police custody following an armed dispute Wednesday evening.

Around 7 p.m., East and West Precinct officers responded to reports of a man with a gun at a fitness center in the 400 block of Broadway East. When police arrived, they learned a man was being held at gunpoint following a dispute with a subject armed with a handgun.

While patrol units worked to secure the area, SWAT and members of the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) were called to respond to the scene. HNT established communication with the suspect and gained compliance allowing SWAT to safely move in and take the suspect into custody.

Once the suspect was in custody, SWAT searched and secured the business to ensure the location was safe for normal operation. During the incident, patrons sheltered in place inside the fitness business until it was safe for them to evacuate. A few minor injuries were reported at the time of the incident.

Seattle Fire responded and provided care to those needing medical assistance.

Police booked the 42-year-old man into the King County Jail for assault and unlawful imprisonment. The firearm used in the incident will be entered into evidence.
