The Seattle Police Department is releasing the name of the officer involved in this shooting: Officer Cholo Ginter.

Seattle Police Force Investigation Team (FIT) detectives continue to investigate this officer involved shooting.
Per policy and in the interest of transparency, the department is releasing cellphone, dashcam, and body worn video of the incident.

On Tuesday, July 18th, 2023, at 0747 hours, Seattle Police officers responded to reports of a person assaulting multiple people near 2nd Ave and Cherry St in downtown Seattle. Officers located an injured person with a stab wound to the neck. This individual was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Assisted by witnesses, officers located the suspect in the 100 block of Spring Street, armed with a knife. An officer deployed a less-lethal tool. One officer fired his duty weapon, injuring the subject. Officers rendered medical aid and the subject was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
Seattle Police Department’s Force Investigations Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Homicide & Assault Unit responded. The Office of Police Accountability and Office of the Inspector General were contacted and responded. This is an active and ongoing investigation, and this information is preliminary. In accordance with policy, Seattle Police Department will release video of the incident within 72 hours. The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
