A 26-year-old female and a 14-year-old female were arrested for organized retail theft in the Capitol Hill neighborhood on February 19th.
At 2:22 p.m., a merchant at the University Village shopping center called 911 reporting that two shoplifters had ran from the store with more than $3,000 in stolen clothing. The merchant was able to provide detailed surveillance photo and video, and noted the vehicle the suspects fled the scene in. Officers were provided information that the suspects had possibly been seen in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
North Precinct officers coordinated with their counterparts in the East Precinct, and the suspects were located, and taken into custody in the 600 block of 23rd Avenue East.
A records check of the 26-year-old female revealed multiple outstanding felony warrants from multiple jurisdictions for organized retail theft. The 26-year-old female was booked into King County Jail for investigation of Organized Retail Theft. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant, as officers believed the stolen merchandise to be concealed inside the vehicle.
Officers served a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle, which yielded the merchandise, as well as a 9mm handgun. Neither the 26-year-old female nor the 14 year-old-female are legally permitted to possess a firearm. Also located was more suspected stolen property from a separate merchant valued at more than $4300.
