Seattle Police arrested a 55-year-old male armed with a realistic looking handgun and a large knife after a five-hour standoff in Pioneer Square Friday afternoon.
At about 11:00 a.m., Officers responded to a 911 call near the 500 block of 2nd Avenue and located a 31-year-old victim that reported a male pointed a handgun at him.
Officers located the suspect inside of the Sinking Ship parking garage. The weapons in his waistband were visible to officers, and he was non-compliant with their commands.
Seattle Police’s Hostage Negotiation Team, Crisis Response Team, and SWAT team arrived on scene and assisted with negotiation and tactical decision making. Patrol Officers closed off the nearby area to contain the suspect and maintain public safety. The West Precinct Incident Commander monitored the scene.
After more than five hours of negotiations, the suspect was taken into custody. He was arrested for Felony Harassment, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Trespass.
Police recovered a realistic looking handgun and a large kitchen knife.
He was booked into King County Jail.
