#2024-241796/East Precinct/First Watch:

At 0521 hours, Officers responded to the area of 17th St and E Cherry St to the report of shots being fired. There were numerous callers who all reported hearing a barrage of gun fire in the area. Once in the area, Officers heard at least 3 distinctive shots within a block radius of the responding location. Officers located a shattered front door and multiple casings at a business in the 1700 block of E Cherry St. Officers heard sounds coming from inside the business and requested containment and additional resources from other precincts due to the layout and size of the business. While containment was being set up, a subject was observed exiting from the rear of the building and bee-lining it to a vehicle. The subject exited the parking lot at a high rate-of-speed and headed northbound. A partial plate and vehicle description was broadcasted. Another unit coming into the area briefly saw the vehicle but lost sight moments later. There was significant bullet damage to the business and at least 2 dozen casings were recovered on scene. GVRU, Homicide, and 241 were notified and patrol processed the scene. Not too long after the scene was processed, Officers recovered security footage and were able to match the partial plate with another vehicle of similar description that was been randomly ran earlier in the morning. The RO of that vehicle came back to a subject who matched the person seen on the security footage. Additionally, that RO had generated a previous call three days prior at the incident location. That RO also had a firearm registered to him with the same caliber as found on scene. The incident was rescreened with 244, SWAT, Homicide, and GVRU. Probable cause was established, the RO was confirmed to be at his place of residence, and a warrant was written. SWAT responded and executed the warrant. A firearm and ammunition were recovered on scene. The suspect was transported to KCJ via AMR.
